The Anthony Award Shortlist was announced on June 4th.

Two of our 2009 Collectible Book of the Month picks were included in the nominees: Alan Bradley’s The Sweetness at the Bottom of The Pie and Stuart Neville’s The Ghosts of Belfast. Stephanie Pintoff, winner of an Edgar Award and Sophie Littlefield also had books nominated. The other nominee was Bryan Gruley for Starvation Lake. Mr. Gruley’s book is a paperback original … not a hardback. These are in the Best First Novel category. (I have first editions of all of these except Starvation Lake).

Other nominees were Louise Penny for A Brutal Telling, which won an Agatha Award earlier this year. And Stieg Larsson who won the Anthony Best First Novel for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo last year. His second book The Girl Who Played With Fire is on the shortlist for the Anthony Award this year. (Mr Larsson died a few years ago at age 50 before his books were published. The UK firsts are becoming very expensive.)

John Hart is also on the shortlist for Last Child. All his books have been nominated for awards and he won the Edgar earlier this year for this book.
